Abstract

This study provides an insight into the recreational sporting activities of older, expert firefighters, with a particular focus on motivation. On average, how much sport do on-duty firefighters do per week? How long have they been participating in regular sports activities? What is their motivation? This research seeks to answer these questions using a quantitative method. Retired firefighters took part in the investigation (46 persons, average age 47,87 ±3,35). The criteria for inclusion in the study were age of at least 45 years and at least 15 years of professional experience as a firefighter.  The results suggest that the main motivation to participate in sporting activities among the trainees was to relax and cope with everyday stress. In addition, there was also a commitment to work, which motivates firefighters to participate in regular spot activities.
