Abstract

In Hungary both primary- and secondary schools and also higher educational institutions switched to digital learning from 12 March 2020. During the quarantine period, in the spring of 2020, due to the changed circumstances caused by the coronavirus epidemic, the SZTE Sports Center announced for the university students, employees and Alumni such a sports opportunity which encouraged them to move actively in compliance with the restrictions of the curfew.

We first launched the “SZTE Move! Who gets further?” challenge in five movement categories lasting several weeks. From the second week we expanded these options to suit arising needs. Competitors could join in collecting kilometers on foot, by running or cycling, on a rolling or indoor device and in individual water sports. In addition to winning the title of „furthest-reaching faculty”, we set a collective goal of a virtually circumnavigating of the Globe with these kilometers, which was successfully completed by the participants.

Students, staff and former University students alike were grateful that they got new means for staying active in their time at home: with movement that helped them to cope and work through difficulties.
