Abstract

This study provides an insight into the sporting activities and the psychological background of regular skiers over fifty years of age for at least 20 years, with a special focus on motivation and sources of pleasure.

The study sample consisted 35 participants (25 men, 10 women) with an average age of 55.06 ± 6.34.

Aim: The research uses a qualitative method to explore the motives behind skiing. This approach is novel and unusual, but provides much more information than the quantitative approach.

Results: The results suggest that skiers over 50 years of age have intrinsic motivations, including the experience of freedom, pleasure, relaxation and flow, the beauty of the scenery and belonging to a group of people with similar interests.
